You just need to either purchase a service plan that includes unlimited texting. For the Ozone, the compatible plans that included unlimited messaging are the Nationwide Select plans and the Smartphone Email & Messaging plan.

Yes, the Ozone can handle apps like those of the iPhone or BlackBerry. You can find apps to download either from Verizon.com, Microsoft.com/windowsmobile, are an array of other download repository sites online. You can either access these sites from your computer or directly form your phone.

Yes, ringtones are available for the Ozone, as well as any other Windows Mobile device. For popular songs, you should try going directly to Verizon's ringtone site.
Also, Microsoft gives away free ringtones at the Windows Mobile website under Total Access.
Lastly, you can even use mp3s in your collection as ringtones. See this tutorial

Upgrade to Ozone w/o Data Plan

I want to purchase this phone; however, Verizon requires I purchase a data plan with the phone. I simply want to use the Ozone as a phone and some of its features, such as the WiFi when I'm in a hotspot. Is there anyway to purchase the phone without a data plan? Or, as the person before me asked, may I cancel the data plan afterward? If I cancel the data plan afterward, will the phone still work to receive phone calls and will I be able to use the wifi? Thank you.

Unfortunately, Verizon and most other carriers now require data plans for new smartphones. This is an attempt to make sure that customers get the most out of the phone's features/capabilities.
If you really only want to use the wifi without paying for data, the only potential way around it that comes to mind is to purchase the phone without contract. I've heard of people that have done this with the Ozone and did not need to purchase data or change their plan. However, you should definitely call VZW to double-check since I know that VZW.com does not allow you to activate new BlackBerrys without data, even if you already own the phone outright. The other downside to this approach is that buying the phone alone will not give you the main phone discounts. Run the numbers and see what makes the most sense to you and your needs.

You do not have to be in a "hot spot". The Ozone's wifi works wherever you are able to connect to a wireless signal.
When you are not around a wireless signal, you can still access email and internet through your data plan on Verizon's 3G network.

There are hacks out there but I would not recommend it. There really is no difference anymore between standard and professional. Professional has a touch screen so it would not work properly. There will be an upgrade on Ozone from 6.1 to 6.5 in the very near future.

Yes. All Verizon Smartphones now require an additional data plan in order to take advantage of the device features. Most other major carriers are starting to move in this direction as well.

I'm wondering if the HTC Ozone has the capability to have "folders" within the phone book....like if you are able to create groups of contacts and then send a text message to all of them at once.
Thanks!

I don't believe the Ozone has the capability to have folders for contacts, but you could send group SMS either via Twitter or through some free software downloads online.

The Ozone offers two different font sizes for email: small & large. On the device, go to Start -> Settings -> Accessibility. Modify the System font size as desired.

I am debating between the Blackberry and the Ozone through Verizon. I like the idea of the Ozone because of Windows. Are the free apps available comparable to the Blackberry or do all Smart Phones have access to the same basic applications?

Blackberry has the AppWorld while Windows Mobile has the Windows Marketplace for Mobile for officially endorse apps. Because the Windows Marketplace launched later, but that should even out soon. There are also many apps online that are not in these app stores for both Blackberry and Windows. If by basic applications you mean productivity apps, the Windows Mobile might be a better choice because there's Mobile Office, but if you mean Shazam, Pandora, or Facebook, right now Blackberry may be better.

Expert Reviews of HTC Ozone (Verizon Wireless)
Expert Rating: 3.5
by Joni Blecher -- August 31st 2009
The HTC Ozone with its slim form factor and green keys is a departure from some of the more bulkier form factor smartphones many think of when they think about a Windows Mobile phone. The smartphone sports a Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, 3G connectivity, stereo Bluetooth, a 2-megapixel camera, and an e-mail set up tool thats so easy to use anyone can get e-mail on this smartphone within minutes. If youve been thinking about getting a Windows Mobile smartphone and dont want a touchscreen, the HTC Ozone is worth a look.

If I buy the HTC Ozone from LetsTalk as an eligible upgrade, will I be forced to pay for a monthly data plan? If I am automatically enrolled in a new data plan, may I cancel the data plan at anytime without losing a discount? Thank You for the assistance.
